Children are seen here playing using outside large play equipment exercising their large muscles, gripping, balancing, eye-hand co-ordination. Constant interaction and dialogue through small group activities and play between children themselves as well as with teachers.

Some children are concentrating on a project in the sandpit using wet and dry sand, filling and emptying, weighing heavy and light containers.

Other children are trying out pedaling and cycling scooters, cars and tricycles.

Children learn through responsive, reciprocal relationships with people, places and things (Te Whaariki Principle: Relationships, Ministry of Education 1996).
